WASHINGTON, DC - ING has joined as a Millennium Sponsor of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) 25th Annual Conference to be held in Washington, D.C. through Saturday, June 28th. In 2007, the NALEO Educational Fund partnered with ING to make possible local grants across the country to promote healthy lifestyle choices in Latino communities. The grants allowed school districts to promote running programs and purchase equipment, like running shoes, in order to help engage students in making active lifestyle choices throughout the school year and beyond. With the NALEO 25th Annual Conference, ING is supporting the largest gathering of Latino elected and appointed officials in the nation. This year’s NALEO Annual Conference will attract upwards of 800 participants who will discuss key policy issues affecting their constituents, including issues like education and health. Over the course of the three-day Conference, participants will be joined by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, U.S. Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral, Senators Robert Menendez, Ken Salazar and Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former Secretary Henry Cisneros, and Governor Bill Richardson, who will be honored with the organization’s Edward R. Roybal Award for Outstanding Public Services. “Latinos are a permanent part of our nation’s communities and political fabric,” said Arturo Vargas, NALEO’s Executive Director. “Our partnership with corporations like ING is instrumental in continuing to empower Latinos to achieve the American dream.” |
