LOS ANGELES, CA -The ya es hora, ¡Ciudadania! Campaign, and its partners, will assist legal permanent residents to apply for U.S. Citizenship in 16 cities across the country on Saturday, July 12, ya es hora National Day of Citizenship. The workshops will take place in the following cities: Bakersfield (CA), Boston (MA), Dallas (TX), Denver (CO), Hacienda Heights (CA), Houston (TX), Las Vegas (NV), Los Angeles (CA), New York City (NY), Oxnard (CA), Phoenix (AZ), San Antonio (TX), San Diego (CA), Sterling (VA), South Gate (CA), and Van Nuys (CA), and are being hosted by local ya es hora partners and service providers.
The National Day of Citizenship this Saturday continues the historic ya es hora, ¡Ciudadania! campaign which in USCIS Fiscal Year 2007 helped mobilize nearly 1.4 million eligible immigrants to apply for U.S. citizenship.
For more than a year, this effort has brought together more than 400 diverse institutions in 24 cities to offer citizenship workshops and to provide other hands-on help to applicants. The national coordinators of this effort include Entravision Communications, ImpreMedia, Mi Familia Vota Education Fund, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), and Univision Communications Inc. This National Day of Citizenship is also being conducted with the support of the We Are America Alliance, a coalition of local, state, and national organizations committed to increasing the civic participation of the immigrant community.
“The commitment to continue to increase the civic participation of our communities remains strong,” says
Ben Monterroso, Executive Director of Mi Familia Vota Education Fund. “The ya es hora National Day of Citizenship is another opportunity to engage legal permanent residents in taking the next step to become full stakeholders in the American dream. Credit for what has been achieved belongs to the community and to all
the partners working to make ya es hora a continued success.”
