NALEO Education Leadership Initiative (NELI)
California Statewide Policy Institute on
Higher Education Access and Success
Manhattan Beach, California | January 19-21, 2007
On behalf of the NALEO Educational Fund, we extend an invitation for you to attend the NALEO Education Leadership Initiative (NELI) California Statewide Policy Institute on Higher Education Access and Success, January 19-21, 2007, at the Manhattan Beach Marriott.
The objective of this Policy Institute is to convene Latino elected officials from across California to enable them to further Latino student achievement at the state level through the interpretation of successful higher education access principals and promising practices. Policy focus areas include the growing economic imperative for a more highly educated state workforce, the increasing need for more Latino student preparation, participation, retention and completion in California higher education, and the rising call for more accountability with regard to student access and success.
The Institute is an excellent opportunity for all California Latino elected officials, including county and municipal officials, community college trustees, school board members and state legislators to share model initiatives and best practices on higher education access. Expert information will include the latest research, model programs, and policy recommendations from state and local agencies, as well as higher education policy researchers. Elected officials will also have the opportunity to identify key strategic partnerships they can develop and how these can help promote effective higher education access policy. Whether you are a seasoned leader or just beginning your tenure, join the growing network of elected policymakers dedicated to strengthening educational opportunities for all students.
If you are interested in attending the Institute, please fill out the enclosed registration form and return it to the NALEO Educational Fund by Friday, January 5, 2007. Once we receive the form indicating your interest in attending the Institute, we will send you additional information. Please note that there is no fee to attend the Institute for current, paid NALEO members. Complimentary lodging (two-night stay) and travel are available to you if you are unable to obtain funding from your office. Feel free to contact Valerie Cuevas at the NALEO Educational Fund at (213) 747-7606, ext. 141, or at vcuevas@naleo.org for further details.
We look forward to seeing you at the Institute and working with you to improve the state of education for Latino students in California.
