NALEO Educational Fund With the goal of improving the health of communities across the nation, the NALEO Educational Fund will convene Latino policymakers, to discuss and share policy strategies to confront the epidemic of chronic disease, particularly childhood obesity. Presentations will include: school wellness, community design, neighborhood safety, transportation, housing, recreation, and access to affordable fresh foods. Additionally, you and your peers will participate in cross-jurisdictional dialogue, as well as identify and network with leading experts on this critical national issue. The Policy Institute on Healthy Communities is part of the NALEO Educational Fund’s national Healthy Communities Initiative. The goal of the Institute is to enhance the governance and policymaking success of Latino elected officials. The NALEO Healthy Communities Initiative is supported by Leadership for Healthy Communities, a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Leadership for Healthy Communities (LHC) is a partnership of the nation’s leading governance organizations including: the American Association of School Administrators, the Council of State Governments, the International City/County Management Association, the Local Government Commission, the National Association of Counties, the National Association of State Boards of Education, the National Conference of State Legislatures, the National League of Cities, the National School Boards Association, and the United States Conference of Mayors. We encourage elected officials from across the nation to take advantage of this unique opportunity. There is no fee for current NALEO members ($100 annual membership fee) to attend the Institute and travel scholarships are available to cover roundtrip airfare, as well as two-night hotel. However, please note that scholarships are limited and available through a short application process. Completed application forms must be submitted by March 13, 2009. |
