In the spring of 2006, millions of immigrants and their supporters marched in cities throughout the United States in support of comprehensive immigration reform. The unprecedented levels of participation has motivated thousands of individuals to seek other avenues to continue their civic engagement, including more direct democratic actions such as voting, which requires that a legal permanent resident first become a United States citizen.
The message was loud and clear: Immigrants are an integral part of the American community. There is no better way to demonstrate our community's patriotism and commitment to this country than by becoming full participants in its democracy. United States citizenship and voting are clearly the next steps.
We encourage you to join us Saturday, September 30, 2006 and take a step forward to becoming fully politically empowered and to secure the futures of your family and community. Day of Citizenship Services
