LOS ANGELES —The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) issued the following statement regarding the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to serve as Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court:
“NALEO applauds President Obama for nominating Judge Sonia Sotomayor to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. Sotomayor is eminently qualified and her unparalleled background reflects the full diversity of U.S. society. Having served for nearly three decades at every level of the judiciary, Judge Sotomayor has more experience in the federal judiciary than any other person nominated to the United States Supreme Court in 100 years. Her extraordinary personal story as a Latina from the South Bronx serves as an inspiration for all Americans. Still, the NALEO Board of Directors has a process for reviewing judicial nominations and it will begin reviewing her qualifications and positions on the issues important to NALEO’s mission.”
