LOS ANGELES, CA - Today, the leaders of the historic ya es hora ¡Ciudadania! (It’s time, Citizenship!)
Campaign announced that they will assist legal permanent residents apply for U.S. citizenship in 13 cities
across the country on Saturday, July 11th, as part of the campaign’s “National Day of Citizenship.” The
effort builds on the success of the campaign’s previous effort which helped set a record for the total
number of naturalizations in 2008.

The workshops will take place in the following cities: Dale City, Virginia; El Paso, Texas; Hacienda
Heights, California; Hollywood, Florida; Houston, Texas; Irving, Texas; Long Island, New York; Los
Angeles, California; New York City, New York; Mesa, Arizona; Pasadena, Texas; San Antonio, Texas;
and Somerton, Arizona. At the workshops, eligible legal permanent residents will receive all the
assistance and services needed to fill out a U.S. citizenship application.

“Through our combined efforts, the partners of the ya es hora campaign helped set a record for the total
number of immigrants realizing their dream of U.S. citizenship in 2008,” said Arturo Vargas, Executive
Director of the NALEO Educational Fund. “With an understanding that there are still millions out there
who need help with the citizenship process, we will continue this important civic engagement campaign
in 2009 and beyond in order to assist those who want to make their voices heard in our nation’s
democracy a reality,” he concluded.

The ya es hora ¡Ciudadania! (It’s time, Citizenship!) Campaign, which includes Entravision
Communications, impreMedia, Mi Familia Vota Education Fund, NALEO Educational Fund, National
Council of La Raza, Service Employees International Union, Univision Communications Inc. and
hundreds of community organizations, businesses and public and private agencies, plans to reach the 8.25
million legal permanent residents still eligible to naturalize, including 3.8 million eligible Latinos. The
campaign includes an integrated and multi-media campaign strategy designed to inform and motivate
eligible legal permanent residents to apply for U.S. citizenship. This media effort will be complemented
by the work of local community organizations around the country that will provide those seeking to apply
for U.S. citizenship with direct services and assistance.

“The community understands that as citizens, people can help to shape the future of this country,” said
Ben Monterroso, Executive Director of Mi Familia Vota Education Fund. “However, citizenship also
offers many other benefits, such as access to government jobs or being able to petition for family
members to join them here in this country. The work local community organizations in this campaign are
doing is important. They provide free assistance and information about the process of applying for
naturalization and make the process more accessible for people,” concluded Mr. Monterroso
