NALEO MOURNS THE LOSS OF FORMER CALIFORNIA STATE
ASSEMBLYMEMBER MARCO ANTONIO FIREBAUGH
Los Angeles, California –The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed
Officials (NALEO) released the following statement regarding the passing of former Member of the California State Assembly, Marco Antonio Firebaugh.
Today, the Latino community and the State of California lost a courageous and visionary leader. NALEO is deeply saddened by the passing of former Member of the California State Assembly, and NALEO member, Marco Firebaugh.
Former Assemblymember Firebaugh was a model public servant dedicated to providing
leadership that brought about real change for his constituents in Southeast Los Angeles. As a legislator, he authored the 2002 bill that allowed non-resident students attending California universities to pay in-state tuition, the first of its kind in the country. His innovative legislation served as a blueprint for other states, and has been successfully introduced by other Latino state legislators seeking to address the needs of immigrant students who seek the opportunity for access to higher education.
His outstanding leadership will be sorely missed. NALEO extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
