NALEO MOURNS THE LOSS OF FORMER TEXAS
STATE SENATOR FRANK MADLA |
Los Angeles, CA ––The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) released the following statement regarding the passing of former Texas State Legislator Frank Madla:
“Last week, the Latino community and the State of Texas lost a courageous and visionary leader. NALEO is deeply saddened by the passing of former Member of the Texas State Legislature, and NALEO member, Frank Madla.
“Former State Senator Madla was a devoted husband and father, a gifted educator and a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for more than three decades to improve the
lives of Texans. In his 33 years as a legislator, Madla was a strong and effective advocate for key projects that benefited San Antonians. During the height of his career, he successfully paved the way for a new San Antonio Spurs’ arena, securing much needed funds for the redevelopment of Kelly Air Force Base. His efforts were crucial in lining up support for incentives to bring a Toyota truck plant to the south side the city that currently provides more than 4,000 local jobs. In the last years of his life, Senator Madla was passionate about his
10-year fight to bring a university campus to the south side. He believed that a campus could enhance the economic opportunities available in the southern sector of his district by providing young people a college option closer to home. As one of his last legislative acts, Madla successfully advocated for a higher-education construction bond earmarking $40 million for the proposed A&M San Antonio campus.
“In his 33 years of service, Frank Madla will best be remembered for his unique ability to cross party lines and deliver results for his community. His outstanding leadership undoubtedly left a mark on the State of Texas. NALEO extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.”
