It presents a unique opportunity for Latino policymakers to meet with their colleagues from all levels of government to address the challenges and opportunities facing our communities and our nation. The NALEO Annual Conference provides a venue for the meaningful exchange of ideas and solutions to today’s most pressing policy issues.

NALEO 31st Annual Conference sessions will focus on various policy areas, including:

  • Education, with an emphasis on STEM
  • Health
  • U.S. and Mexico Bi-national Issues
  • Political Empowerment
  • Economic Development
  • Municipal Finance
  • Pensions
  • Water

This year the NALEO Annual Conference will feature a track specifically for newly elected officials, providing critical governance training for those that may have missed our “newly boot camp” in 2012. Plenary sessions will focus on the Latino Electorate and the 2014 Elections, where we are 50 Years after the Civil Rights Act, and Celebrating Latina Leaders. Luncheons will focus on state and national leadership that will be augmented by sessions focused on governance and political empowerment.

Opening Reception | USS Midway

Thursday,
June 26, 2014

6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

USS Midway Museum
910 North Harbor Drive
San Diego, CA 92101

This special evening aboard the USS Midway will focus on the significance of Latino representation in our military.

Together with Presenting Sponsor Host, Toyota, and Co-host, JPMorgan Chase & Co., NALEO will showcase how troops, past and present, contribute and foster leadership in our community, helping to encourage and strengthen the voice of Latinos throughout the country.

Select members of our armed forces will be recognized for their leadership, dedication and unwavering commitment to the defense of our country, in seamless union with their colleagues in service. The USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum serves as San Diego's tribute to the contributions of the armed services, and as a dynamic, interactive vessel of education, history and preservation. The Museum features an array of historical collections including virtual flight simulators, vintage naval aircrafts from World War II, audio tours, interactive and multimedia exhibits, and the Midway Museum store.

The USS Midway was commissioned on September 10, 1945, and over the next 47 years, served more than 200,000 American veterans during the Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War and a number of other voyages. The USS Midway remained on station and responded to every call – both military and humanitarian, and is the longest serving transporter of the twentieth century in existence, today.
